Chiropractor

Winner: Dr. Jennifer Jaffe Finn, Finn Chiropractic Center, 1 Gravel Pond Road, Clarks Summit, 586-3440. This is the second year that Dr. Finn won the Chiropractor category, perhaps because she sees her patients as family members. “We like to know about our patients and their lives,” she said. Finn treats patients of all ages and enjoys working with children. She said that kids whose spines are in alignment get sick less frequently and for shorter periods because their bodies work more efficiently.

Runner up: Dr. Carl O’Hara, 301 W. Grove St., Clarks Summit, 586-8525.

Dentist

Winner: Dr. Timothy P. McGurrin of Abington Family Dentistry, 314 N. State St., Clarks Summit, 586-6500. Dr. McGurrin attributed his success to his wonderful dental school education, attention to detail, continuing dental education during the past 20 years, his caring wife and four sons, top-notch staff with more than 50 years of cumulative service together and the No. 1 group of patients in the Abingtons. “I am also fortunate to enjoy the camaraderie of many fine dentists in the Clarks Summit area,” he said.

Runner up: Dr. Thomas Langan, 260 N. State St., Clarks Summit, 587-4227.

Doctor

Winner: Dr. Ted Stampien, 103 W. Grove St., Clarks Summit, 586-7220. Dr. Stampien, who was also last year’s Doctor category winner, practices general and cosmetic dermatology. He credits his accomplishments to his “awesome” staff. “We treat people like people want to be treated – with compassion and respect,” Dr. Stampien said. “We try to do our best for them.”

Runner up: Dr. Stephen Jaditz, D.O., 517 Northern Blvd., Chinchilla, 587-0756.

Insurance Agent

Winner: Tim Franklin, Biondi-Franklin Insurance Agency Inc., 790 Northern Blvd., Abington Professional Plaza, Clarks Summit, 587-2840, www.qualityinsurance.com. Franklin was also last year’s Insurance Agent category winner. The agency has been in existence since 1979 and Franklin has been with it since 1981.

Runner up: Phil Whitbeck, Whitbeck Insurance Agency, 504 N. State St., Clarks Summit, 587-4686, www.whitbeckinsurance.com.

Lawyer

Winner: Malcolm L. MacGregor, Foley Law Firm, 600 Linden St., Scranton, 342-8194, www.foleylawfirm.com. MacGregor of North Abington Township said he’s in his 18th year as an attorney with the Foley Law Firm. “I treat people the way they want to be treated, no matter what they come to me with … with the respect and the urgency it deserves,” he said. MacGregor served as the Clarks Summit Borough solicitor for about two years and has served as the Glenburn Township solicitor since 1995. “My mom always encouraged me to stand up for the little guy and to help those less fortunate,” MacGregor said.

Mechanic

Winner: Dixon Automotive Collision and Service Center, 205 Old Lackawanna Trail Road, Clarks Summit, 585-6000, http://dixonautorepair.com. Founded in 1957 in West Scranton, Dixon Automotive has been in its Clarks Summit location for three years. Owner Todd Dixon attributes the business’ success to its staff’s positive attitude, good customer service and hard work. “The customer always comes first,” he said.

Mortgage Broker

Winner: Michelle McCormack, McCormack Mortgage Services Inc., 933 Northern Blvd., Clarks Summit, 586-3634, www.mccormackmortgage.net. McCormack, of Taylor, has been in the mortgage industry for 21 years and has owned McCormack Mortgage Services Inc. since 1999. She said her many years of experience give her an edge. “I find customers a mortgage that they can live with and not just get approved for.”

Pediatrician

Winner: Dr. Anders Nelson, 110 Layton Road, Clarks Summit, 586-8879. Dr. Nelson, who has been a pediatrician for 18 years, attributes his success to his patients’ great parents and his four staff members, who are caring and welcoming. “We’re a nice, tight-knit practice,” he said.

Runner up: Dr. Vincent Ross, 440 N. Main Ave., Scranton, 347-5605.

Realtor

Winner: Barry Kaplan, ABR, RCC, Classic Properties, 790 Northern Blvd., Clarks Summit, 587-7000, www.classicproperties.com. Kaplan, who’s in his second year as the Realtor category winner, said he’s successful because he genuinely cares about people. “I have the ability to help people feel satisfied and that they have accomplished what they set out to do,” he said. Kaplan is also a good listener who is easy to talk to. “What I do is help people do what they want to do.”

Veterinarian

Winner: Dr. Robert Stephenson, 1324 Justice Blvd., Justus, 587-3715. Dr. Stephenson, who treats cats and dogs, said he truly cares about his clients and their pets. He also said he couldn’t be successful without his friendly and knowledgeable staff. “These 14 people and their reputation allow me to devote myself and concentrate on my patients,” Dr. Stephenson said.
