Part of the appeal of the Clarks Summit Festival of Ice is it offers area residents exposure to groups and performers they otherwise may have not had the opportunity to see.

Shown front, from left, are the members of Tribal Waves: Dmitriy Soliterman and Jamie Orfanella. In the back is drummer Matt Scola.
Every year, the event brings in a mix of old favorites and introduces fresh acts. This year, Everything Natural will host one act’s festival debut. They will showcasing the world music style of Tribal Waves Saturday, Feb.13, from noon to 2 p.m.
A world music combo performing songs from ancient cultures and modern improvisations, the group is comprised of Matt Scola, Scranton, on drums, Dmitriy Soliterman, Larksville, on bouzouki and Jamie Orfanella, Kingston, on didgeridoo, world flutes, jaw harps and various other percussion instruments.
Combining the sounds of the didgeridoo, a wooden wind instrument whose origins date back 1,500 years ago, with more modern electric instruments, Tribal Waves has created a sound that’s all its own. It’s a blend of ancient sounds from every corner of the globe with some contemporary flavor.
“Even if you’re familiar with world music, you haven’t seen this mixture before,” said Orfanella.
“People who have seen us have been stunned, the sounds we create, people are just not used to hearing. Everyone is so used to the sounds of western instruments that when they hear something like the didgeridoo it’s fascinating to them.”
And even after the fascination wears off, Orfanella said that members of Tribal Waves’ audience still find themselves entertained.
“We played at the Afa Gallery in January and the people there were very enthusiastic, we had the audience up and dancing. You might not think of this as music you can dance to, but you’d be surprised,” said Orfanella.
More information on Tribal Waves is available on Facebook.
Everything Natural is located at 426 South State St. Clarks Summit.
