A puppet performance of “The Ugly Duckling” will be held at the Abington Community Library on Thursday evening, Nov. 5, at 6:30 p.m. in the Children’s Story Room. Puppets and scenery have been made over the past few weeks by youngsters under the direction of Kate Crowley, Abington Heights High School student, who will use the experience as the basis for her Senior Project. All ages are invited to attend the performance. Note that the date was rescheduled from Nov. 12. Call the library for further information and ask to speak to Mrs. McGrath.

Students from Abington Heights will be volunteering their time to present a Spanish Story Hour on Wednesday, Nov. 18, from 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Karly Storms and Kristin Neuhausel, who are both studying Spanish at school, will be the presenters of the first program in the series. They will read two favorite storybooks aloud to the children and then teach them words and phrases from the book in Spanish. A game or other activity will also be included. The program is recommended for children in kindergarten through third grade. They should be pre-registered in person or by calling 570.587.3440.

New Large Print Books

“The Case of the Missing Servant,” by Tarquin Hall. Vish Puri is India’s most private investigator, whose main work comes from screening prospective marriage partners, but when an honest public litigator is accused of murdering his servant, it takes all of Puri’s resources to investigate. His adventures reveal the complexities of modern Indian life.

“Chin Up, Honey,” by Curtiss Ann Matlock. As the wedding of Emma Berry’s son approaches, the many meanings of love, commitment and happiness capture the hearts of the folks of Valentine, OK.

Surrounded by the warmth and spirit of her neighbors, even Emma starts to see new beginnings instead of endings.

“Sew Deadly,” by Elizabeth Lynn Casey. To clear her name of the murder of her ex-fianc�, librarian Tori Sinclair, newly arrived in Sweet Briar, SC, will have to rely on her new sewing sisters, the Sweet Briar Ladies Society Sewing Circle, and stitch together the truth.

“Hot Pursuit,” by Suzanne Brockmann. Alyssa Locke agrees to provide personal protection for New York Assemblywoman Maria Bonavita, but then an old case crosses paths with this new assignment, and no one is safe from the killer known as “the Dentist,” who wants to make Alyssa his ultimate trophy.

Sunday, Nov. 8 Books, Wine, and All That Jazz 5 - 8 p.m. A jazz trio will be here to entertain patrons while they sample wine from a local winery and hors d’oeurves. Free to Friends members! Get a membership that evening. Adults.

The library will be closed on Tuesday, Nov. 11 for Veteran’s Day.
