“The Influence of Hip-Hop in a Culture of Communication” will be the topic of a lecture given by Celeste A. Fisher, Ph.D., on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 9 a.m. in Collegiate Hall, Redington Hall at The University of Scranton.
Dr. Fisher has published articles on film audiences, race and representation, identity politics and urban studies. She has also served as a special issue editor for The International Journal of Media and Cultural Politics on a project titled, “Black Women’s Politics Through Cultural Expression,” which examines the ways in which black women have creatively articulated their political views within the context of various social and cultural movements. She is the author of Black on Black: Urban Youth Films and the Multicultural Audience.
Fisher is the 2008-2009 Diversity Institute Visiting Scholar at Misericordia University, where she teaches courses in communication and sociology.
Fisher holds a bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University, a master’s degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo and a doctorate from New York University.
