Apex Waste Services commercial route driver Mike Tammero of Union Dale, Susquehanna County, has won a brand new Ford Escape Hybrid through Waste Management’s 55-in-five customer engagement program. Tammero and the rest of Waste Management’s 1,300 employees in its Pennsylvania-West Virginia service area became eligible to win the fuel-saving SUV for the area’s improved customer satisfaction metrics in the fourth quarter of 2009.

Shown, from left, Gianna Tammero, 10, of Union Dale, is all smiles as she and her parents receive the keys to a brand new Ford Escape Hybrid awarded through Waste Management’s 55-in-five customer engagement incentive program. With Gianna, from left, are her mother, Virginia, her father, Mike, a driver for Apex Waste Services in Dunmore; Joe Williams, Apex district manager; and Don Hull, salesman for Gibbons Ford in Dickson City.

“This is really cool. This is really wild stuff,” Tammero said as he, his wife, Virginia, and their daughter, Gianna, picked up the Escape last week at Gibbons Ford in Dickson City. “I’m still waiting for somebody to tell me it’s a joke.”
Tammero and his wife have two other children, a son, Michael, 22, and a daughter, Taylor, 16. Tammero is a 24-year Waste Management employee who has worked as a commercial rear-load driver at Apex for 10 years.
Joe Williams, Apex’s district manager, said Tammero is the embodiment of customer engagement. Williams said Tammero can be hard to track down on his route because he spends so much of his time out of his truck engaging his customers and making sure they are satisfied with their waste collection service.
Apex Waste Services, Dunmore, Alliance Landfill in Taylor and the Beach Lake Transfer Station in Wayne County are operated by Waste Management, its industry’s leading provider of comprehensive environmental services. Based in Houston, Waste Management serves municipal, commercial, industrial and residential customers throughout the United States and Canada. The company employs about 150 people in northeast Pennsylvania.
