Candidate for state rep launches campaign

Clarks Summit Mayor Harry Kelly will serve as host to the campaign launch for Sid Michaels-Kavulich, candidate for Pennsylvania State Representative, 114th District.

The event will be conducted on Thursday, March 18, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Clarks Summit Fire Department, 321 Bedford Street, Clarks Summit.

Michaels-Kavulich, the former area television sportscaster at WBRE and WYOU, recently named Kelly as his campaign manager. “We are honored to have a person of Mayor Kelly’s integrity and commitment heading our campaign,” said Michaels-Kavulich.

Kelly has been a political activist for many years, both on the local as well as the national scene. In 1984 he was elected to the Democratic National Committee. Since then, Kelly has been involved in many local campaigns. In 2004, he was elected as mayor of Clarks Summit, and following re-election in 2008, he continues to serve the people of the borough.

“After meeting with Sid, I was impressed with his vision and desire to serve the people of the 114th,” said Kelly. “I believe he is a man of character and credibility, qualities that are needed in today’s leadership.”

In addition to his civic activities, Kelly also serves as a Eucharistic minister at Our Lady of the Snows Church and the Church of St. Benedict. A graduate of Keystone College and Mansfield University, Kelly resides in Clarks Summit with his wife, Kim Harding Kelly, and daughter, Erin.

In addition, Michaels-Kavulich said John J. McGovern, Jr., Esq., CPA, has been named treasurer for the campaign.

“John brings to the table an amount of accomplished experience that gives this campaign the utmost level of competence and credibility, the type of qualities that define us,” said Michaels-Kavulich.

Attorney McGovern graduated magna cum laude from Holy Family University with a degree in accounting. Following graduation, he worked in the criminal investigation division of the IRS as a special agent, serving in that capacity for four years in both San Diego and Washington D.C.
