Another year of the Artisans’ Marketplace means another year of the Holiday House Tour held by the Waverly Community House. In conjunction with the Marketplace, community members will have the chance to take a self-guided tour through three Waverly homes on Sunday, Nov. 22, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Holiday House Tour showcases the work of local decorators in time for the holiday season. Visitors to the homes will be able to gain insight on ways to decorate their own homes. It is also a tour to enjoy after a day of shopping at the Marketplace.
For Cheryl Scandale Murnin, Waverly, this will be her first time as chairperson of the event. She explained that sometimes the owners volunteer their homes and at other times the Comm will seek out the homeowners. “This is the first time all three homes happen to be in Waverly,” Murnin said. “I think people will be interested to particularly see the houses that are historic and how to decorate for the holidays. People can feel free to go to the houses in their own pace and in no particular order.”
The three homes being featured, each with its specific decorator, are the Walker home on Waverly Road with Versailles from Clarks Summit and Kate Bryer; the Weinberger home on Stonegate Road with Stephen Plocha, Green Ridge, from Decoration Unlimited; and the Campo home on Morningside Drive with Flowers by John Mackey, Scranton.
“We select the decorators based on a particular character of the house,” Murnin said. “We then pair the decorator with a house. Once paired, there is very little for the committee to do. It is mostly collaboration between the decorators and the house owners.”
Versailles owner and Waverly resident Lisa Sniegocki will be helping to design a holiday table setting in the Walker home’s dining room. She will be focusing on accenting the table based on the color schemes of the room. “We all had a meeting about two weeks ago and I got a feel for the home,” she said. In order to have the home ready for the day of the tour, Sniegocki will help to decorate on the Thursday and Friday beforehand. As a first year decorator for the event, Sniegocki said she wouldn’t mind helping out in future tours“I go to the house tour every year,” Sniegocki said. “It’s great for the community as well as for the retailer. (The house tour) will bring more people into town to shop and that’s what we are hoping for.” For more Versailles decorating ideas, visit www.versailleshome.com.
Tickets for the Holiday House Tour are $20 and will be available in the lobby of the Comm on both Nov. 21 and 22. For details, call the Comm office at 570.586.819, ext. 2.
