Keystone, Marywood players named to first team

Keystone College senior midfielder Nicole Macedonio and Marywood University junior forward Brittany Beaton were named first-team Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) field hockey all-stars Friday, Oct. 30.

Macedonio is one of two Lackawanna Trail Jr./Sr. High School graduates named to the first team. Kelsey Deveney, a freshman back at Gwynedd-Mercy, was also selected.

Keystone went undefeated in the CSAC this year. Macedonio, the center midfielder, is the team’s leading scorer with nine goals and five assists in 15 games and helps the team allow fewer than 10 shots per game.

“When people try to put balls across the middle, Nicole Macedonio scoops up everything,” Keystone coach Kacy Manning said.

Beaton carries a four-game, goal-scoring streak into the CSAC playoffs. She led Marywood in scoring with eight goals, including four game-winners, and four assists.

Deveney, one of the leaders of Lackawanna Trail’s District II Class AAA championship last year, had three goals and four assists while leading the Gwynedd-Mercy defense.

Two former Abington Heights teammates playing at local colleges were among the second-team choices.

Maggie Brittain, a sophomore back at Marywood, made the team along with Samantha Morgan, a sophomore forward at Keystone.

Morgan, who also played midfield and is among the national leaders with 10 assists, was one of two Keystone players on the second team.

Whitney Hubshman, a senior from Lackawanna Trail, is the other. Hubshman, Keystone’s center back, has five assists.

Marywood also had a second selection on the second team, Emily Wentzel, a senior midfielder. Wentzel, who was an honorable mention selection last year, was Marywood’s representative on the CSAC Sportsmanship Award winner list.

Keystone forward Kelsey Drozda, who had three goals and two assists in seven league games, was named CSAC Rookie of the Year.
