Kids take charge at Junior Achievement summer camps

Junior Achievement of Northeastern Pennsylvania Inc. will present two summer camps at its headquarters in Pittston Township.

Students ages 9 to 12 take charge of their worlds as entrepreneurs, advertising executives and even mayor of BizTown at Junior Achievement BizTown Summer Camp from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., August 4 to 8. At JA Finance Park Summer Camp, running August 12 to 14, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., 13 to 15 year olds walk in the shoes of a first time job candidate and a real life adult, earning a salary, buying their first home and car and paying their bills.

Both camps will take place in the Junior Achievement Mericle Family Center for Enterprise Education. The center is home to a life-size replica of a small American town featuring retail stores, a bank, caf, radio and television stations and city hall. Through the center’s interactive sessions, campers share talents, gain new skills and learn the importance of giving back to the community, while having fun along the way.

Cost for JA BizTown Summer Camp is $185, with an extended day learning program offered from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. for an additional $50 per camper.

JA Finance Park Summer Camp is $150. Family discounts are available and space is limited. Contact associate Director of Special Programs Dara Coslett Granza by July 18 at 602-3600 or dgranza@janepa.org for details. Register and take a virtual tour of JA BizTown on the Web at http://nepa.ja.org.

Junior Achievement, a partnership between the business community, educators and volunteers who work together to inspire young people to dream big and reach their potential, teaches concepts of work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy to young people through hands-on, experiential programs.
