Leadership Lackawanna graduates 25, presents awards

 

The 25 graduates of the Leadership Lackawanna Class of 2009 were recognized on Thursday, June 25 in a ceremony held at Lackawanna College. The program included service project presentations, award recognitions, presentation of the 25 graduates and the introduction of the Leadership Lackawanna Class of 2010 which will include 34 local professionals.
The Class of 2009 completed four service projects benefiting organizations within Lackawanna County including-
· The Restoration of Hanlon’s Grove at Nay Aug Park
· Team SCOLA
· Future L.I.N.K. benefiting the Boys and Girls Club of NEPA
· Northeast Regional Cancer Institute Survivors’ Park at McDade Park Revitalization

Awards were also presented at the ceremony to both current participants and alumni of the program. Kristie Grier Ceruti of The Abington Journal was awarded the “Shining Star” Award for displaying above-average dedication to the program.
“It was a moment I will always remember,” said Ceruti. “I was really surprised to win the Shining Star award, because during the entire year I felt surrounded by so many people who were enthusiastic about the program and dedicated to their projects.”
The 2009 “Class Leader of the Year” award was presented to Baptist Bible College’s Ken Knelly. The “Class Leader of the Year” Award is presented to a true advocate of the Leadership Lackawanna program, his group project and the well-being of the community.
“It is quite an honor to be selected. I appreciate the recognition by my peers, each of whom has made meaningful contributions to the community through their group service projects. Leadership Lackawanna is a terrific program. For each of us, it opens up new understanding about many great organizations as well as many needs across the county,” said Knelly.
The Leadership Lackawanna alumni association also presented the “Alumni Leader of the Year Award.” Lisa Marie Hall (’07) of the University of Scranton Small Business Development Center received the award for embodying the philosophies of Leadership Lackawanna and using her experiences for the betterment of the community.
“I’m honored to receive the Alumni Leader of the Year Award,” said Hall. “My Leadership Lackawanna experience had such a positive impact on my life and I consider myself lucky to have the opportunity to stay involved with the program.”
