Magazine recognizes local doctor

Glenn D. Steele, Jr., MD, PhD, joins a select group of 20 individuals named to HealthLeaders magazine’s annual list of those who are “truly making a difference” in today’s complex health-care world.

The Dec. 15, 2008, issue of the publication praises Dr. Steele, president and CEO of Geisinger Health System, as an advocate for integrated healthcare delivery systems. “Geisinger’s integrated model, which combines the hospitals, physicians and an insurance company under the same financial framework, has allowed the health system to adopt innovative, consumer-friendly care models.”

The article continues, “The integrated model also promotes cooperation and collegiality between primary care physicians and specialist resulting in better outcomes.”

Others on the list this year include actor Dennis Quaid, IRS Commissioner Douglas Shulman and IT innovator Lyle Berkowitz, MD.
