Abington area gardens were nominated by the community and profiled weekly from July through October in The Abington Journal. A 14-week story series written by Mauri Rapp included a contest in which readers were invited to vote at the Abington Journal office and on www.theabingtonjournal.com. One grand prize winner will receive a $200 gift card and two runners up will each receive $10 gift card, sponsored by Corky’s Garden Path in Justus.
The grand prize winning garden is owned and cared for by Mitch and Sondra Morgan on Crossgate Drive in Clarks Summit. First runner up was awarded to Beth Thompson and Jeff Kasprzak of Ransom and second runner up to Frank and Joanne Garnecki of Clarks Summit.
At the house of Mitch and Sondra Morgan on Crossgate Drive in Clarks Summit, the garden is chock full of color all year round. Mitch Morgan said he learned to garden from his grandparents, whom he said had great love for the hobby. His abilities were put to the test when the Morgans bought their house six years ago; their new property had previously been a cow pasture and had never been planted, so the Morgans added topsoil to promote plant and grass growth.
“It’s nice to see that the garden is being enjoyed, not just by us but by other people,” said Mitch.
