Visual Arts

Super Hero Theatre and Visual Art, for ages 3 to 5, at the Dietrich Theater in downtown Tunkhannock. Instructors: Michaela Moore and Amy Colley. Preschoolers: Thursdays, Oct. 22, 29, Nov. 5 from noon to 12:45 p.m. Mommy and Me: Fridays, Oct. 23, 30, Nov. 6 from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Learn about super heroes while creating stories, live theatre, arts and crafts. “Beneath the Surface,” featuring the art of Mark Chuck and Barry Singer, at the Environmental Center at Lackawanna State Park. The opening will be Friday, Oct.23, 7 to 9 p.m. the art will be on display weekdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through November. Info: 570.945.7807.

The new Pauly Friedman Art Gallery at Misericordia University will present “Capturing Realism 2009: The Waichulis Studio,” an exhibit of works from the nationally renowned studio of acclaimed Modern Master Anthony J. Waichulis from Nov. 7 through Dec. 19. Cost: free. A meet-the-artists reception will be held Saturday, Nov. 7 from 5 to 8 p.m. and will include a gallery talk by artist Timothy Jahn on “The New Realism Movement” and remarks by Sharon Lloyd Hourigan, president of the Cultural Council of Luzerne County, beginning at 6 p.m. Cost: The evening’s events free. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Monday through Thursday; closed Friday and 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
