Dear Editor,

Dear Editor,

It’s that time of year again where ghosts, goblins and ghouls visit us for an evening of fun and treats. It’s only natural that we include our four-legged friends in our activities. Have fun but keep in mind these tips to make sure our best buddies stay safe while enjoying the spooky festivities.

Make sure your pet is secure. With a lot of unfamiliar little people moving in and out of the house, it’s very easy for Fido or Fluffy to get loose. Indoor pets can be momentarily distracted and slip outside. No one wants to spend an evening looking for his/her scared pet all over the neighborhood, Halloween or not. Whether your pet is an outdoor or indoor pet, it’s a good idea to bring your pets inside your home in an area away from all the strange lights, noises from trick-or-treaters, doorbells and ghoulish pranks. If you’re going to dress up your pet in a costume, make sure it’s appropriate and not constricting. Finally, always supervise your pet when he or she is in costume. Make sure they don’t overheat, and have their water bowl topped up before the evening festivities begin.

Make sure treats are well out of the way of Rover, and make sure to instruct children and adults not to feed the dog any sweets, especially chocolate, which can be toxic to them. Mary Smotryski,

Dalton
