Dear Editor,

Each year, the Pennsylvania Treasury Department receives millions of dollars in unclaimed property from abandoned bank accounts, forgotten stocks, checks that have not been cashed, certificates of deposit, life insurance policies, safe deposit boxes and other sources. We maintain custody of this unclaimed property, while working hard to return it to its rightful owners.

I encourage you to join Treasury to spread the word about unclaimed property. In 2007, Treasury returned nearly $88.8 million to over 63,000 owners. We are currently seeking the owners of over $1 billion in unclaimed property and are always employing numerous outreach methods to help Pennsylvanians claim what is theirs.

To search the Pennsylvania unclaimed property database, please visit the Pennsylvania Treasury Department’s Web site, www.patreasury.org, and look for the “Claim what is yours” icon at the bottom of the home page. Searching for and claiming your property is always free of charge.

For more information, please contact me at 717-787-2991 or news@patreasury.org.

Sincerely,

Carrie Fischer Lepore,

Director, Treasury
