Dear Editor,
This afternoon, Friday, Nov. 13, I spoke with members of a crew doing work for PPL involved with the proposed Susquehanna-Roseland Project, which is the 550KV line to run through the area and ultimately supply the NYC area with power. The crew was drilling test holes along the proposed route to see if the ground is stable enough to support the massive towers that are to be built.
No sooner had I returned to my office and was checking my e-mail than I received an update on the S-R Project from PPL titled “Pennsylvania PUC – Judge Recommends Approval of S-R Power Line.” The recommendation had just been made this same day.
Amazing how such an action is coming on a “proposed” project in which activities, such as surveying the land, as well as the aforementioned drilling, has been happening for months.
The announcement states, “PPL Electric Utilities hosted 22 public open houses since announcing the project and has participated in four public input hearings run by the PUC. In addition, we have had thousands of conversations with residents along the route, seeking input on everything from route selections to power line design. We will continue to keep an open dialogue with residents, public officials and other interested parties as this project moves forward.”
Obviously all the actions, especially conversations and PUC hearings (two of which were held on the same day at the same venue in Monroe County), were nothing more than a dog-and-pony show. This project and its preferred route were virtually guaranteed from the moment they were proposed. In the meantime, both taxpayers’ and rate payers’ hard-earned money was wasted. This on top of the 10 millions in permanently lost property values all along the line.
