New resident wins Wyoming County Reads Act Contest

Marcia Wright and her husband Norm moved to Tunkhannock in August, 2011, just a month before the disastrous flooding. In spite of this natural disaster, Marcia, who is employed by Foth Production Solutions and supports engineering efforts at Procter and Gamble, has become involved in the community by entering a drawing in the Book Jacket Redesign Contest for One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey for Wyoming County Reads 2012.

New York Trumpet Ensemble to Perform Gene Yevich Memorial Concert

The New York Trumpet Ensemble, directed by acclaimed trumpeter Mark Gould, will perform at the fourth annual Gene Yevich Memorial Concert on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in The University of Scranton’s Houlihan-McLean Center. The ensemble includes Gould, Joseph Boga (grandson of Yevich), Caleb Hudson and Mat Jodrell on trumpet, as well as Adam Birnbaum on piano and Phil Keuhn on bass.

Wayne Bank has donated $10,000 to the Abington Heights Educational Improvement Organization (AEIO). The funds will be used to supplement and enhance the educational environment and programs within the Abington Heights School District. AEIO brings together ideas, people and resources to support innovative educational programs outside the regular school curriculum.

State Supreme Court issues redistricting opinion; election season in chaos

Acknowledging the uncertainty and confusion their ruling created, the chief justice of the state Supreme Court explained his reasoning Friday for rejecting the state’s legislative redistricting plan last week. But the court declined to lay out a specific way forward for the 2012 elections.
