When I first wrote about this in May last year, lease prices were “up to several hundred dollars an acre.” When I did an update in December, prices “as high as $800” were said to be offered. Now $2,500 an acre is thought to be a reasonable price. Who knows how high it may go? Statewide, speculation about the most promising part of the Marcellus Shale is being directed solidly toward northeastern Pennsylvania.

Deal on Pa. budget averts threatened shutdown

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) _ State lawmakers and Gov. Ed Rendell struck a deal on a new state budget early Monday, averting possible furloughs of 25,000 state workers and a partial government shutdown amid a slowing economy that has stifled the flow of state revenue.

Keystone College's electric choice

Keystone College has taken an important step toward reducing carbon emissions on campus. The college has purchased four electric vehicles from Vantage Vehicles of Yorba Linda, CA. The new vehicles, all of which are vans, will replace three gas-powered vans and one automobile and will be used by campus safety officers and Sodexo campus employees.

New Pavilion Reservation Policy at McDade Park

Effective with this week’s July 4 holiday, Lackawanna County will require reservations for holiday and holiday weekend use of McDade Park’s two pavilions. Openings are still available for both July 4 and July 5. Capacity of each pavilion is 150 people, so more than one group can share the facility at one time up to the 150-person limit.
