Quidsi Inc., parent company of Diapers.com, announced plans to create 100 new jobs in the Covington Industrial Park, expanding to 300 new jobs over the next several years.
Relocating from Harrisburg, the company will occupy 811,000 square feet of the 1.3 million-square-foot distribution facility in the Covington Industrial Park as early as this month. Diapers.com plans to begin operations in early 2010. The facility is owned by First Industrial Realty Trust Inc. and was constructed by Norwood Construction in 2008 for Circuit City.
“We are extremely pleased we found both a facility and location that will meet our growth needs over the coming years while simultaneously maintaining the rapid delivery of orders that our customers enjoy,” said Scott Hilton, executive vice president of operations for Quidsi, Inc.
“Hopefully this is the beginning of a thaw in the economic deep freeze that we have been in,” said Austin Burke, Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce president. “While a number of indications have been positive, we are pleased that Diapers.com has made the commitment that will benefit our region.”
Diapers.com was founded in 2005 in Montclair, N.J., by Marc Lore and Vinit Bharara. It is the largest online specialist offering baby care necessities in the United States and has additional distribution facilities operating in Reno, Nev., and Kansas City, Mo.
Diapers.com will be hosting a job fair for potential new employees in January at Covington Industrial Park. Details will be announced at a later time. For information regarding other job opportunities, visit Diapers.com or contact Diapers.com at careers@diapers.com.
