Lackawanna County recycling center sets Electronic Recycling Day for Sept. 13

Rob Specht Abington Journal Correspondent

MOOSIC - If you are looking for a way to get rid of that old TV that just doesn’t work anymore or an ancient computer, then Saturday, September 13 is a date you should highlight on your calendar. On September 13, the Lackawanna County recycling center is holding its annual Electronics Recycling Day at PNC field in Moosic.

They will be accepting cell phones, DVD players, VCRs, old turntables, TVs, computers, computer monitors and hand held computer games that the children just don’t play with anymore.

This is a registered DEP, or Department of Environmental Protection, event and is also being co- hosted by a registered electronics recycling company called Eco-International based in Holstead. The electronics will be broken down and the parts will be recycled from the plastic, metal and the microchips. The cost is $5 a carload, including one TV or computer monitor and an additional $5 for every TV and computer monitor after that.

The center not only recycles but also educates. They are available to visit classrooms at the local schools from ages K through 12 and discuss the benefits of recycle. Small businesses and residents can recycle paper such as bills, Post- it notes, index cards, faxes, copier and printer paper. At home, recycle aluminum cans, glass jars and plastic soda bottles, as well as magazines and newspapers. For more information call the Lackawanna Recycling Center at 963-2017.
