Health care advocates taking fight to Washington, D.C.

On the heels of President Barack Obama’s meetings with more than a dozen Democrats from the House of Representatives on Thursday to urge them to support his health care legislation, area members of Health Care for America Now and the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1776 are offering a free bus ride to Washington, D.C.,  on March 9 for a “day of action” rally.

Various executives from the health care industry will be meeting at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in D.C. to discuss their opposition to the proposed health care reform, so the purpose of the rally is to let these companies know of the group's support for Obama’s health care initiative.

The bus will depart Tuesday at 5:30 a.m. from UFCW Local 1776’s headquarters in Pittston, located at 2007 state Route 315, and will leave Washington, D.C., at 3:30 p.m. for the return trip.
