Library offers Grief Workshop

As the holiday season draws near, joyful sights and sounds begin to fill the air around us. For many, it is a time to spend with family and friends close at hand.

But for those who have suffered the loss of a loved one or who have endured any sort of hardship or difficulty, the holiday season can be more than difficult to bear. While the joyous atmosphere is often a call to rejoice, experiencing the holidays during or after difficult periods in life can have a harmful impact on individuals and their families in any number of ways.

With this in mind, the Abington Community Library has partnered with the First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit and AseraCare Hospice to provide a holiday grief workshop. Intended to help plan for the holiday season after the loss of a loved one or other difficult circumstance, the workshop will take place from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1, in the Ryon Room of the library.

Conducting the workshop will be Dawn Jeziorski, a licensed social worker and eight-year veteran of AseraCare Hospice.

According to Alice Broxton of First Presbyterian Church, this will be the third year that the church has staged the workshop, but the first that it has worked with the library as a partner in the effort.
