PennDOT issues Interstate 81 road work updates

PennDOT  had issued the following alert concerning Interstate 81.  Concerning Exits 191-194, the northbound bridge and road repairs continue between Exit 191(Dickson City/Scranton Expressway) and Exit 194 (Clarks Summit). This will be a long-term lane closure, first northbound and then southbound. Work lasts until June 2009. Work includes over five miles and 11 bridges Northbound between Exits 191 and 194 and southbound between Exits 191A and 197. Work is 7a.m. to 5 p.m. at

    • Mile 192 over Route 442, Burcher Ave (two bridges);
    • Mile 193 over Route 1027, Layton Road (two bridges);
    • Mile 194 over Route 4019, Edella Road (two bridges);
    • Mile 195 over Route 4028, Fairview Road (two bridges);
    • Route 632 over I-81 N and S, Exit 197 (Waverly);
    • Route 1031 over I-81 North and South;
    • Route 2109 (Griffin Pond Road) over I-81, road closed through end of  Summer 2008. Detour is Johnson Road.

I'm planning to drive south on Rt 81 from Binghamton past Scranton on July 25 and north on July 28 through this area. I know there's a LONG delay. Can you suggest an alternate way to get through?

I too am traveling Rt 81 between Binghamton and Scranton. Can you please advise where the bottlenecks to plan an alternate route? thank you!
