Ransom welcomes new solicitor

Mauri Rapp Abington Journal Correspondent

Ransom Township has a new solicitor. Atty. William T. Jones, who has law offices in Scranton, was introduced at the township supervisors’ reorganization meeting on January 5.

During the meeting, supervisors also reelected Joseph Esposito as chairman of the board of supervisors and Dennis Macheska as vice-chair. Kathy Zielinski will retain the title of Secretary/Treasurer and David Bird will remain Road Master. Kathy Zielinski was also appointed as the township’s Right-To-Know officer in accordance with Pennsylvania’s new Open Records Law.

Township officials also announced that a public meeting will be planned for the future development of a 530-plus acre site recently purchased for recreational purposes. Esposito said that officials would like input from Ransom Township residents about what they would like to see on the site.

Officials said that a township recreation board may be formed to help with the recreation area’s planning. “We need to have a plan in place,” said Macheska, “So we know what we want to happen five, ten years down the road.”

Ransom Township Board of Supervisors will next meet on February 2 at 7 p.m. at the Ransom Township Municipal Building on Hickory Lane.
