Rotary fireworks - July 3, 2008

Rotary Fireworks Chairman Ed Nuzacci has announced that the Annual Abington Rotary Fireworks are scheduled for Thursday, July 3 at the Abington Heights Middle School grounds. Foreign exchange student to conclude her Rotary year

Gabriela Suarez, the Rotary Club of the Abington’s current Foreign Exchange Student from Santa Cruz, Bolivia, will conclude her stay this month. Gabriela will graduate from Abington Heights in June and will then proceed on a month-long bus tour of the United States along with other Foreign Exchange students during August. She will then return to her native Bolivia where she will rejoin her former classmates in school until November when she will graduate again from the Bolivian high school. The South American school year runs from February through November.

Gabriella claims she has deeply missed the warm climate of Bolivia and is not used to the cold winter weather of Northeastern Pennsylvania. However, she adds that the friends she has made during her visit here more than made up for the cold weather. Gabriela has made the honor roll each semester at Abington Heights. She plans to pursue a career in art after her final graduation in Bolivia. She has had three host families during her stay including; Mr. and Mrs. Dale Collins, Mr. and Mrs. Barry Westington and Mr. and Mrs. John Kennedy.

Rotary Club of the Abingtons meets each Thursday at 12:10 p.m. at the Inn at Nichols Village. Get involved by contacting President Joseph Pagnani at 570.563.8246, visiting our web site http://www.abingtons.org, or asking any member. Joe’s quote of the month, “I can’t wait for the fireworks…”

I am the race director for the Komen Race for the Cure. I would like to ask the Abington Rotary for their help with traffic control for this year's race. The race is scheduled for Sat.-Sept.13th. at the courthouse square, Scranton. There are approx. 10,000 participants so we need as many volunteers as possible. I can be reached at 563-2317 or mmtierney@comcast.net. Thank you for your time. Michele Tierney
