SOUTH ABINGTON TWP.— At their regularly scheduled meeting on Nov. 9, the South Abington Township supervisors learned that the township would be reimbursed for an infrastructure project that took place three years ago.
During the meeting, township manager David O’Neill announced the township received a check for $323,083 from the Army Corps of Engineers. The money originally came in an infrastructure grant for a proposal made by the supervisors to create a town hall village across the street from the township building. The proposal was called the Victorian Village.
The project never came to fruition, but with some negotiating, the township was able to apply the money to another venture.
“We were able to turn the Victorian Village grant into a grant that allowed us to use that money for any infrastructure work done throughout the township,” O’Neill said.
Approximately three years ago, the township invested more than $430,000 into the Sewer Force Main project. The Victorian Village grant will now be used to reimburse the township for that work.
The reimbursement will now be eligible for application to other infrastructural needs.
The South Abington Township supervisors will meet again on Nov. 23.
