Salvation Army bell ringers bring Christmas spirit

As the days to Christmas tick away, many local residents have taken a few moments to help raise funds for the less fortunate among us.

Dave Griffin, Clarks Summit, greets patrons at the state liqueur store in Clarks Summit.

Riley Calpan, Waverly, brings some holiday spirit to visitors at the Waverly Post Office.

With the Salvation Army holding their annual red kettle drive, bell ringers can be found at numerous locations around the Abingtons. Dave Griffin, a resident of Clarks Summit has been active as a bell ringer for several years. He is pictured here outside of the State Liqueur Store on Route 6. Griffin's work with the red kettle is one of many projects undertaken by the Rotary Club of the Abingtons, who have been a driving force behind the kettle drive for decades.

Proving that the spirit of giving extends to the youngest members of the community, Waverly resident Riley Calpan was also out ringing the familiar bell at the entrance to the Waverly post office. Her work with the Salvation Army is just the latest in a long line of community service projects that has included collecting supplies for the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter.

For more information on how you can donate to the Red Kettle Fund, call the Scranton headquarters of The Salvation Army at 344-9878.
