According to environmental education specialist Angela Lambert, plenty of family-oriented events will include horse-drawn carriage rides and an introduction to ice fishing, ice safety and rescue, as well as animal tracking with Gregg Gondella. Lambert said that anyone interested in ice skating should bring a pair of skates.
Food is free but Lambert said that there will be a suggested donation to help fund further educational programs. The menu includes hamburgers, hot dogs, pulled pork sandwiches and chili. Food will be available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“Part of our statewide initiative called Get Outdoors Pennsylvania is one of the things our educators are trying to do—introduce people to different activities throughout the park,” Lambert said. She also stressed how important it is to introduce people to activities they might not try on their own and, hopefully, they will like what they learn and pursue it.
The event gets underway at 10 a.m. at Lackawanna State Park, which is located on Route 407. For those interested in finding out more about the park and a schedule of their upcoming activities, visit www.dcnr.state.pa.us. In the event of bad weather, the park will hold the event Saturday, Feb. 20.
