St. John the Baptist Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Mayfield announced its schedule of services for the Feast of the Nativity of Christ
according to the Julian calendar, according to Rt. Rev. Bishop George and V. Rev. Mitred Archpriest John D. Sorochka.
The cathedral, located at 706 Hill Street, Mayfield, will host the following services and events:
On Tuesday, Jan. 6, the Eve of the Nativity of Christ (Strict Fast Day), Vesper/Liturgy of St. Basil will include bringing out of the Nativity
Icon at 8 a.m., Great Complines and Matins at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Jan. 7, The Nativity, hours 8:45 a.m., Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, 9 a.m.; Thursday, Jan. 8, Synaxis of the Most Holy Theotokos (second day of the Nativity), Divine Liturgy, 9:30 a.m.; Friday, Jan. 9, Holy Protomartyr and Archdeacon Stephen (third day of the Nativity), Divine Liturgy, 9:30 a.m.
On Thursday, Jan. 8, the second day of the Nativity, the annual open house will take place at St. John's Rectory. Following the open house, the youth of the parish will visit local nursing homes. Carolers will begin visiting homes of parishioners at 1 p.m.
And on Saturday, Jan. 17, the Annual Yolka (Christmas Presentation) will take place at 5 p.m. in St. John's Center, Hill Street, Mayfield. Youth of the parish will participate in this annual event. Family, parishioners and friends are invited to attend. Refreshments will be served following the production.
Responses to all liturgical services are sung by St. John's Cathedral Choir and St. John's Family Choir under the direction of Gary P. Brzuchalski, Cathedral Choir Director.
