A man who threatened to kill Barack Obama last summer just before the Democratic National Convention in Denver has pleaded guilty to federal weapons charges.

Shawn Adolf faces 10 years in prison after pleading guilty Friday to having firearms as a felon. The 35-year-old man was arrested August 2008 after officers in a Denver suburb pulled over his cousin and found rifles, a bulletproof vest, wigs and fake IDs.

The stop led agents to Adolf, who talked about plans to kill Obama with a rifle. Authorities later determined the men were addled by drugs and had no specific plans to assassinate Obama. The cousin was sentenced to 15 days in prison and six months in a halfway house for possession of methamphetamine.
