Eileen McNamara Horter

Eileen McNamara Horter, 93, of Scranton, died Monday, April 7, at Allied Skilled Nursing Facility. Her husband of more than 50 years, Joseph Edward Horter, died Nov. 2, 1991.

Born June 30, 1914, in Newark, NJ, daughter of the late Reginald and Elizabeth McDonagh McNamara, she and her husband moved to Clarks Summit in 1989 to be near their son, his wife and their grandchildren. Previously, they lived in Florham Park, NJ, for three years; the Locust section of Middletown, NJ, for eight years and in Highlands, NJ, for 20 years, moving from the Vailsburg section of Newark. She was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Church, its Women’s Guild and the St. Vincent Academy Alumni Association.

Surviving are a son, Joseph Kenneth and wife, Mary, Wilkes-Barre; a grandson, attorney Joseph D. Horter and wife, Carolyn, Memphis, TN; a granddaughter, Mary Ellen Weaver and husband, A.J., Lakeland, FL; and two great-grandchildren, Julia Annette and Nicholas Horter, Memphis. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Regina Zink.

The funeral was to be April 10 with Mass at 3 p.m. in Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 S. State St., Clarks Summit, to be celebrated by Monsignor James J. McGarry. Interment with graveside services will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, 100 Chapel Hill Road, Red Bank, N.J. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Snows Building Fund.
