James Thomas O’Malley

James Thomas O’Malley, 70, of Scranton, died Monday, April 28 in the VNA Hospice Unit at Community Medical Center after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.

Born April 25, 1938, in Scranton, the son of the late George and Elizabeth Williamson O’Malley, he was a lifelong Tripp Park section resident and was a 1957 graduate Scranton Technical High School. He was a construction worker and a member of the Laborers Union Local 130. He was a member of Holy Family Church. He enjoyed life and his many trips to Canada, in which he enjoyed sunning while partaking in beverages and laughter with those in his company.

His recent trip to Italy was a memorable trip, with laughter, sightseeing and camaraderie with his fellow travelers. Jim enjoyed his family and especially his extended family at his local pub, which he visited daily and shared in good times. His spirited gusto will always be treasured by those who knew and loved him.

Surviving are a brother, Robert O’Malley, Clarks Summit; a niece, Judy Walsh and husband, Ken, Clarks Summit; a nephew, Michael O’Malley, Aliso Viejo, CA; a sister in-law, Frances Bucciarelli O’Malley, Clarks Summit; his caregivers, Lynn and husband, James Mackie, his goddaughter, Krista Heusner and husband, Ryan, all of Scranton; and additional nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Patrick Leo and George Patrick O’Malley, and two sisters, Mary Owens and Alice O’Malley.

The funeral was to be held Friday, May 2, with Mass at Holy Family Church, 510 E. Gibson St., to be celebrated by his dear friend and confidante, Monsignor John H. Louis and Monsignor Constantine V. Siconolfi, pastor. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery. Arrangements from the Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Services, 111 Colburn Ave., Clarks Summit.
