Annette Ida Evans Jones

Annette Ida Evans Jones, R.N., 83, formerly of Justus, died Sunday, July 5, in VNA Hospice at Community Medical Center. She and her husband, Joseph Jones, would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on Sept. 17.

Born Nov. 8, 1925, in Scranton, daughter of the late William and Ethel Hadfield Evans, she lived most of her life in Justus before moving to Little River, SC, 27 years ago. She was a graduate of Scott Twp. High School and the West Side Hospital School of Nursing, Scranton. She was formerly on the staff of the Scranton Chapter of the American Red Cross as director of youth and volunteered for 18 years before retiring. She was the former school nurse at Scott High School and also worked as a registered nurse in the Chicago area. She was a member of Bible Fellowship Baptist Church, Little River and was active in its adult church choir and Women’s Missionary Union. She was part of the Women’s Club of North Myrtle Beach and was active in the Women’s Bible study group at Windjammer Village, Little River. She was previously a member of Mount Bethel Baptist Church, Justus, and served as church clerk there for 30 years. She was also a Sunday school teacher and director of the youth choir.

“Mama,” as her cherished grandchildren called her, was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. A faithful woman, she was helpful to many, volunteering at her church, doing mission work and acting as a caregiver to others. When not helping others, she enjoyed crocheting, knitting and was a master sewer. She was an avid reader. She sang soprano and enjoyed music.

Also surviving are three daughters, Jo Ann Walczak, Justus; Sally Corrigan and husband, Robert, Carbondale and Nancy Reichert and husband, Scott, Sparrowbush, NY; four grandsons, Bryan Walczak and wife, Janine, Osceola, IN; Trevor Walczak and wife, Casie, Greenfield Twp.; and Zachary and Garrett Reichert, Sparrowbush, NY; a granddaughter, Shayna Reichert, Sparrowbush, NY; three great-grandsons, Ben, Wyatt and Maverick Walczak; and great-granddaughter, Anna Walczak.

The funeral was Thursday, July 9, with services at Mount Bethel Baptist Church, 1309 Layton Road, Justus, by the Rev. Paul Bell and the Rev. Robert Gattorna, both of the Parker Hill Community Church. Interment Valley View Memorial Cemetery, Montdale.
