Catherine Dolores Matthews, Clarks Summit, died Wednesday night, Nov. 4, at the Hospice Unit of Mercy Hospital. Her husband is Benjamin Matthews. The couple was married for 63 years.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Catherine Reimer. She was a lifelong resident of the area and later was the office manager and secretary of the Lackawanna County Conservation District. She enjoyed dancing and was a member of Abington Allemanders Square Dance Club and Betty’s Round-Abouts Round Dance Club. She attended Chinchilla United Methodist Church. She enjoyed baking, sewing, reading and having lunch with her girlfriends. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was loved and will be missed by all that knew her.
Also surviving are three sons, Thomas, Altoona; Ben, Laurel, Md.; and Kevin, Honeybrook; two brothers, John Reimer, Buffalo, N.Y. and Joseph Reimer, Redlands, Ca.; two sisters, Lois Wells, East Benton, and Ellen Weigley, Womelsdorf; eight grandchildren; two great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Theresa Conners, and a brother, Robert Reimer.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home. There will be no call hours. Memorials may be sent to Mercy Hospice, 476 Jefferson Ave., Scranton PA 18501 or Chinchilla United Methodist Church, 411 Layton Rd., Chinchilla, 18410.
