Debbie Donath Hughes, 51, Dalton, died Saturday, July 5 in the Hospice Unit of the Community Medical Center. She was the wife of Daniel James Hughes, they would have celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary on November 1.
Born February 22, 1957, she was the daughter of William and Margherita Sorina Donath, Chinchilla. She was employed as an Outreach Coordinator at Scranton Primary Health Care Center, Inc. and was a member of the board of directors at St. Francis of Assisi Kitchen. She was a graduate of Abington Heights High School and Pennsylvania State University where she earned a degree is Psychology. She was especially grateful for being allowed to attend to the needs of the guests of the St Francis of Assisi Kitchen. She enjoyed preparing wonderful meals for family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening and will be remembered for her beautiful perennial gardens, floral planters and her magnificent flowers on her decks.
Also surviving are a son, Ryan Donath Hughes, at home; a sister, Leslie Donath Graham, her husband, Michael, and their children, Zachary, Michael, and Alexa Margherita; aunt and godmother, Jean Depietro, uncle Frank Sorino, aunt and uncle Eleanor and Stephen Sepkowski, aunt Norma Sorino and uncles Joseph and Herbert Donath; sister- in- law, Kathy Kahanowitz and brother -in -law Gerald Hughes; nieces, nephew and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Onofrio and Caroline Long Sorino and Otto and Miriam Andrake Donath; aunts, Agnes “Murph” Donath and Alice Donath.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, July 9 at 10 a.m. from Our Lady of the Snows Church, Clarks Summit. Interment will be in Cathedral Cemetery. Friends may call of Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
