Edward “Butch” C. McGovern Jr., Moosic, died Saturday, July 5, at his home. He was the husband of the former Grace Harrington; the couple would have been married 50 years this August.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Edward and Bertha Shematis McGovern. He was a resident of Moosic for the past 40 years. Prior to retirement, he was a Lineman and Troubleman for Pennsylvania Power and Light for 30 years. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy, serving on the USS Cotton. He was a member of the Church of St. Joseph’s. He was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. A special thank you to the nurses of Old Forge Dialysis Center.

Also surviving are two daughters, Judith McGovern, Scranton and Patricia Furdin, Moosic; sisters, Peggy Stahl, Dunmore, Judy Kazista, Scranton, and Helen Hilborn and husband, Rob, Moscow; brother- in- law, Leo McNally, Binghamton; sister- in -laws, Mary Solomon, Olyphant, Alice Gorman, Binghamton, Carol Sossong, Moosic and Rosemary McGovern, Clarks Summit; two grandchildren, Kelly and Corey Furdin, both of Moosic, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert McGovern, a sister, Clare Norton and her husband, Ken, and a sister -in -law, Helen McNally.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 9 at 10:30 a.m. from the Church of St. Joseph’s, 312 Davis St., Scranton, with services by Rev. Francis Pauselli, pastor. Interment will be in Cathedral Cemetery. Arrangements from Neil W. Regan Funeral Home, 1900 Pittston Ave, Scranton.
