George A. Sloan

George A. Sloan of Clarks Summit Friday morning, July 3, at Abington Manor Nursing Home. He was the widower of Laura A. Sloan, who died Jan. 8, 2009. The couple was married for 62 years.

Born in Butler, NJ, he was the son of the late Harry and Florence Miller Sloan. Prior to retirement, he was the plant manager for American Asphalt after being the Supervisor of operations for Braen Industries in Riverdale, NJ. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in Western Europe, where he received the bronze star in the liberation on Luxemburg and Belgium.

He was a public servant, serving on the Riverdale, NJ, council. He enjoyed taking his dog, Charlie, on walks at the Lackawanna County State Park.

Also surviving are two sons, Todd A. Sloan, Clarks Summit, and Scott L. Sloan, Cedar Rapids, IA; a daughter, Dawn Verosic, and husband, Ron, Hudson, FL; four grandchildren, Eric, Shane and Star Verosic and Lauran Sloan and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Tina Sloan.

A funeral was to be held on Monday at 6 p.m. at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, with services by Father Anthony Generose. Interment will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Butler, N.J.
