James Michael Eagen Jr., of Clarks Summit, died Friday, June 20 in the VNA Hospice Unit at Community Medical Center. His wife is the former Shirley Wagner.

Born Oct. 16, 1929, in Buffalo, N.Y., son of the late James M. and Dorothy Keane Eagen, he was a graduate of Jermyn High School and the University of Scranton. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in Nagoya, Japan, from 1951 to 1955. He was co-founder of Digital Sound Services Inc. and was previously president of Northeastern Sound Systems Inc., a Musak affiliate that merged in 1982 with Comcast Corp., where he served as vice president and general manager of the Scranton operation. He later served as vice president and general manager of Audio Communication Network, Baltimore, and general manager of Musak, Wilmington, N.C. An entrepreneur, his professional business career included being co-publisher of the Abington Journal from 1959 to 1960 and was a co-founder and publisher of Happenings Magazine from 1963 to 1965. He was a member of the International Business Music Association, the Engineering Society of Baltimore and the Pennsylvania Society. He served on the executive committee of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, National Systems Contractors Association, Abington VFW Memorial Post 7069 and the Clan Eagen Association. He was a former member of the Scranton Club, where he served as director and president.

Also surviving are two children, Jay Eagen and wife, Cathy, Durango, CO; and Gretchen Eagen, Waverly; a sister, Mary Agnes Kemple and husband, Donald, Tully, NY; a granddaughter, Brianna Eagen and a grandson, Keiran Eagen. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Sally Ann McCarthy; and two brothers, F. Keane and John G. Eagen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, June 25 at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 S. State St. , Clarks Summit. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
