Jane Star Bostedo O’Dell

Jane Star Bostedo O’Dell, 80, of Clarks Summit, died Tuesday, July 14, in the VNA Hospice Unit at Community Medical Center. She was the wife of Townsend “Tony” O’Dell. The couple would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary July 24.

Born Oct. 24, 1928, in Clarks Summit, she was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Wright Bostedo. A lifelong Clarks Summit resident, she was a 1946 graduate of Clarks Summit High School. Before she retired, she was employed by the commonwealth of Pennsylvania at the Department of Transportation, Clarks Summit, where she worked as an administrative assistant. She had been a telephone operator for Commonwealth Telephone, Clarks Summit. She was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Church and the Juanita Chapter No. 8, Order of the Eastern Star, Clarks Green. She was a beautiful person in her appearance and toward others. She shared her gentle smile and had kind words of friendship for those she met. A loving woman, she idolized her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her gentleness, kindness and loving friendship will be sadly missed by all who knew her and loved her.

Also surviving are a son, Jeffrey and wife, Carolyn, Jermyn; three sisters, Ceil Ignatovich and husband, Joseph, Lake Winola; Betty Mae Britton and husband, Roy, Dalton; Donna Mitchell and husband, Ken, Chinchilla; three grandsons, Capt. Jeffrey O’Dell and wife, Capt. Charity O’Dell, who are both serving in Iraq; Patrick O’Dell and wife, Amanda, Clarks Summit; and Allen Sutton, Jermyn; three granddaughters, Ashlee Wrightnour and husband, Rob, Baylors Lake; Alecia Battenberg and husband, Devon, Mayfield; and Amber Minick and husband, Robert, Dalton; two great-grandchildren, Madeline O’Dell and Brooks Wrightnour; a sister-in-law, Ruthann O’Dell Hug, Lake Winola; a brother-in-law, Rayburn O’Dell; Louisiana nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Balko.

The funeral was to be Saturday, July 18, with Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Snows, 301 S. State St., Clarks Summit, to be celebrated by Monsignor James J. McGarry.
