Jayne Loftus Wagner, 86, of Dalton, died Thursday, July 3 at Mercy Hospice. She was the widow of Robert W. Wagner, who died April 27, 1969.

Born April 18, 1922, in Jessup, daughter of the late Edward V. and Frances Campbell Loftus, she was a resident of Dalton since 1948. A 1939 graduate of Jessup High School, she received her Bachelor of Science in education from the University of Scranton in 1975. Before retiring in 1988, she was a teacher for NEIU. Previously, she taught in the Scranton School District. She was a member of Our Lady of the Abingtons Church, Dalton, and was a former member of the University of Scranton Alumni Association, where she served on various committees.

A delightful and cheerful woman with her great sense of humor, she enjoyed many happy times with her family. An avid reader, she enjoyed the pleasure of classical music. During her retirement, she enjoyed traveling and her trips to Europe, especially Ireland and Italy. Her infectious smile of laughter was shared by those who knew and loved her. Surviving are two daughters, Jane, Dalton; and Mary, Lorton, VA; three brothers, the Rev. Joseph J. Loftus, Arlington, VA; Donald Loftus, Dunmore; and Francis Loftus and wife, Jean, New Hope; a sister, Elizabeth Flannery and husband, Joseph, Dunmore; nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a son, Paul, in 2001; four brothers, Thomas, Edward, James and John Loftus; and four sisters, Mary Simoncelli, Jule, Anna and Frances Loftus.

The funeral was to be from Our Lady of the Abingtons Church, 700 W. Main St., Dalton, with Mass of Christian Burial to be concelebrated by her brother, the Rev. Joseph J. Loftus and the Rev. John J. Kilpatrick, pastor. Interment, St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.
