Joseph B. Tellie Sr., 89, of Clarks Summit, died Sunday, June 7, in Abington Manor, South Abington Twp.
His wife is the former Elizabeth Grippe. The couple would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on Sept. 4.
Born Dec. 4, 1919, in Dunmore, son of the late Anthony and Theodora La Fratta Tielli, he was a 1939 graduate of Dunmore High School and was a graduate of the Kerpel School of Dental Technology, Philadelphia. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the European theater of operations with Company L of the 309th Regiment, 78th Infantry Division. He fought in the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central European campaigns, most notably the Battle of the Bulge. He was also part of the first division to cross the Remagan Bridge. After the war, he served a term of enlistment in the occupation of Germany. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, among others. He was a member of the American Legion Post 411, Jessup; and VFW Abington Memorial Post 7069. He also served as commander of Post 6170, Olyphant. He was an active member of Our Lady of the Snows Parish, Clarks Summit, and served as an usher for many years.
Also surviving are two daughters, Kathryn Olick and husband, Thomas, and Christine “Ricki” Kalp and husband, James, all of Clarks Summit; a son, Joseph B. Jr. and wife, Geraldine, Kingston; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Ben, Mike, Nick and Pete; and five sisters, Alice, Antoinette, Susan, Lucille and Marie.
The funeral was held June 11with a memorial Mass at Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 S. State St., Clarks Summit. Interment with military honors, noon, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
