Raymond R. Bennett

Raymond R. Bennett, 21, of Newton Twp., died Friday morning at home.

Born Jan. 1, 1989, he was the son of Roger and Elizabeth Sponaugle Bennett, Newton Twp. He was a Clarks Summit resident for the last nine years, formerly living in Hop Bottom.

A 2007 graduate of Abington Heights High School, he was currently a junior at Millersville University, majoring in industrial technology. He was an enthusiastic athlete, obtaining many outstanding accomplishments in wrestling. He wrestled for Abington Heights in high school and went to states his junior and senior years. He currently was a member of Millersville's wrestling team, where he earned the honor of making NCAA Division I Nationals last year.

A free-spirited outdoorsman, Ray was a great friend to those who knew and loved him. He was an amazing son, brother, grandson, nephew and friend. His contagious smile and sense of humor will never be forgotten. He enjoyed drawing, sports and spending time with his family and friends. The impact of his life and accomplishments on those who loved him can not be told in so few words. He will be loved and missed by everyone who knew him.

Also surviving are a brother, Isaac, a senior at the University of Delaware; a sister, Laurie, East Stroudsburg; maternal grandparents, Isaac and Mary Fray Sponaugle, Newton; aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Joseph and Eleanor Bennett, and an aunt, Lois York.

The funeral will be Tuesday with services at 11 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church 300 School Street Clarks Summit, by the Rev. William G. Carter, pastor  . Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. The family will receive relatives and friends Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Jennings Calvey Funeral & Cremation Services Inc. 111 Colburn Ave. Clarks Summit
