Roy William Russell, 88, of Clarks Summit, died Thursday, June 26, in the VNA Hospice Unit at Community Medical Center. He was the husband of the former Ella Jane Coslett. The couple was married more than 64 years.

Born Sept. 26, 1919, in Darby, son of the late Roy and Anna Mae Reiner Russell, he was a 1937 graduate of Scranton Technical High School and served in the Army during World War II in the African campaign. He lived in Clarks Summit since 1949 and, before retirement, was employed by the Petersburgh Silk Mill, where he worked as a weaver and inspector. He enjoyed sailing, hunting and fishing at Lake Winola. Also surviving are two daughters, Barbara Grabfelder and husband, Kurt, Clarks Summit and Nancy Smith and husband, Robert, West Mountain; a son, Roy William Russell II and wife, Bonita, Dalton; a brother, Elmer “Howard” and wife, Mary Russell, Tuckerton, NJ; a sister, Ruth “Judy” Steuben, Moscow; four granddaughters, Karla Gambrill, Julie Whittaker, Abigail Jayne and Melissa Russell; three grandsons, Derek Grabfelder, Adam Smith and Christopher Russell; two great-granddaughters, Emma and Lily Whittaker; and seven great-grandsons, Nathan, Matthew and Evan Gambrill, Conner, Caden and Chase Grabfelder and Tucker Jayne.

The funeral was held Monday, June 30 from the Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., 111 Colburn Ave., Clarks Summit, with services by the Rev. Ted Faux, pastor of Chinchilla United Methodist Church. Interment, Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington Township.
