Ruth Maines, 93, Clarks Summit, died Thursday, August 7, at the Abington Manor Nursing Facility. Born in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Horace E. and Mae Horton Geary. She was a resident of Clarks Summit for the past 12 years and prior to retirement she was the owner operator of Maines Grocery Store in Green Ridge and later purchased the Lamp Lighter Restaurant and Bar in Scranton. She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, and its Beta Class, the ladies Auxillary of the V.F.W. Post 908 and a graduate of Carbondale High School. She was a kind loving mother and grandmother who loved to cook and bake her special apple pies. Her favorite place was her relaxing time at Newton Lake.
Surviving are two daughters, Carol Manziano, Clarks Summit and Cathy McHugh, and her husband John, S. Gibson; two brothers, Warren and Russell Geary, both of Florida; seven grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and a special friend and care giver, Gloria Martinelli. She was preceded in death by a son, Gary Maines and a granddaughter, Robin Manzaino Toth. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 7 p.m. from the Asbury United Methodist Church with services by Rev. Arthur W. Davis. Arrangements by the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S.
