Watkin Pierce

Watkin Pierce, 69, Lake Winola, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 21, at Community Medical Center in Scranton. His loving and devoted wife is the former Carmen Vanderveken. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Pierce was born in the West Side Hospital in Scranton, son of the late Ralph and Eleanor Pierce. Prior to his retirement, he was employed with Overfield Twp. He was a life member of the Lake Winola Fire Co. and a member of St. Mary’s of the Lake Church, Lake Winola. He was educated in the Falls Overfield School District in Mill City, where he received his GED.

Also surviving are four sons Jeffrey and his wife, Pearl, Dalton; Timothy and his wife, Lori, Dalton; Joseph, Lake Winola; and Eric and his wife, Diana, Scranton; a daughter, Rose Nelson, Tunkhannock; a brother, Ralph, and his wife, Carol, Prospect Park; and a sister, Joan Vitris, Scranton; grandchildren, Matt, April and Mark Nelson and Christina Bohn, Brittney, Abigail, Benjamin, Anna and Gina Pierce; great grandchildren, Logan Bohn and Madison Jordan.

A mass of Christian burial was to be held Saturday at 10 a.m. from St. Mary’s of the Lake Church, Lake Winola. Arrangements from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
