Upon being nominated by his fifth grade teacher, Jill Ray, Abdalla spent a week in Washington, D.C., testing his leadership skills during group discussions, presentations, lectures and group work.
During his experience, Abdalla visited national memorials and participated in an overnight trip to the Maryland Science Center in Baltimore.
Abdalla’s roommates were from California and Arkansas. He had of opportunities to meet and become friends with many students from all over the United States.
Abdalla has been invited to return next year to the Junior National Young Leaders Conference for alumni. He will then spend a week in Boston and get the chance to reconnect with all those he met in Washington, D.C. and prepare to take on new challenges.
“It was a really neat experience for him,” said Jack’s mother, Elizabeth Abdalla. “He was on his own all week and had responsibilities, like getting to meetings and lectures on time. The days started off early and were full of many events. I was very impressed that he held a schedule like he did.”
Jack is the son of Anthony and Elizabeth Abdalla, Clarks Summit. He has a brother Luke, 10 and sister, Lucy, 6.
