The Pennsylvania State Nurses Association (PSNA) presented Marian L. Farrell, Ph.D., Clarks Summit resident and professor of nursing at The University of Scranton, with its 2009 Nursing Education Award, which was presented to Dr. Farrell on Oct. 23 at a ceremony at DeSales University.
Dr. Farrell joined the nursing faculty at The University of Scranton in 1990. In addition to serving as an educator and role model, the award also recognizes Farrell for her community involvement. She is the vice-president of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Northeastern Pennsylvania Affiliate and has served previously as its president and board member. She is a member of several professional nursing organizations at the local, state and national level and has served as the past president and board member of District IV of the PSNA. Farrell earned her doctorate in nursing from Adelphi University. She earned a master’s degree from Syracuse University and a master’s degree and bachelor’s degree in nursing from Misericordia University. She earned a post-master’s certificate in psychiatric mental health nursing as a nurse practitioner from Drexel University and a post-master’s certificate in health care of women as a nurse practitioner from the University of Pennsylvania.
