Cognetti eliminated from state tennis

Southern Lehigh's Michelle Perez eliminated Scranton Prep's Anne Cognetti from the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class AA girls' tennis tournament Friday morning with a 7-6 (8-6), 6-0 victory.

Perez, the District 11 champion, used the victory to advance to the state quarterfinals.

The match brings an end to the high school career of Cognetti, who suffered her only two losses of the season in Hershey. She was unbeaten in Lackawanna League and District 2 play, leading Scranton Prep to titles in each from the number-one singles position, and helped the team advance to the state quarterfinals.
