Defending champion Lackawanna Trail earned the second seed for the District 2 Class AAA field hockey tournament that will start Wednesday.

The Lady Lions and top-seeded Wyoming Valley West have first-round byes and will be off until November 2.

The quarterfinals will feature two games Wednesday at 3:30. Fifth-seeded Delaware Valley (6-9) will be at fourth-seeded Honesdale (7-8) while sixth-seeded Wallenpaupack (4-11) is at third-seeded Coughlin (8-7).

The Coughlin-Wallenpaupack winner will play at Lackawanna Trail (8-6-1) November 2 at 3:30. The Honesdale-Delaware Valley winner will play at Wyoming Valley West (11-4) that night at 7 p.m.

The date and site of the district championship depend on whether Wyoming Valley West advances, according to tournament director Jeff Gregory.

If Wyoming Valley West reaches the final, it will be November 4 at 6:30 at Crestwood.

If Wyoming Valley West loses in the semifinal, the Class AAA final will be November 5 at Wyoming Valley West at 6 p.m. to open a doubleheader with the Class AA final.
