Local college teams extend streaks

The Marywood University women's soccer team and the Keystone College field hockey team each extended lengthy streaks with wins over local rivals Thursday.

Lisa Hanselman had three goals and Leslie Higham added two as Marywood routed visiting Keystone, 8-0, in women's soccer to remain unbeaten in the last 14 games.

Keystone College won its 11th straight when it defeated the University of Scranton, 3-1, in a field hockey game at Scranton's Fitzpatrick Field.

Both teams have completed their regular seasons and will be top seeds in the Colonial States Athletic Conference playoffs. Marywood finished 9-0-1 in the CSAC and improved to 13-2-1 overall. Keystone, which went 8-0 in the league, improved to 14-2 overall.

Meghan Coyle needed just two saves to post her third straight shutout for Marywood in the soccer game against winless Keystone.

Keystone goalie Melinda Moore helped make up for a Scranton shot advantage with 10 saves and four former Wyoming Valley Conference players contributed to the field hockey win.

Montrose graduate Brackney Brotzman and GAR graduate Kelsey Drozda scored goals for a 2-0 lead. In between, Abington Heights graduate Samantha Morgan made a defensive save to preserve the Keystone lead. Lackawanna Trail graduate Whitney Hubshman assisted Katie Butzer on the last goal.

In women's volleyball, Marywood clinched a CSAC playoff berth with a 3-1 win over Immaculata.
