McKenna runs, passes for scores in playoff game

A.J. McKenna ran for one touchdown and passed for another Saturday afternoon but it was not enough for Albany State (Ga.) as it fell to West Alabama, 24-22, in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II football playoffs.

McKenna, a former Scranton High School and Lackawanna College quarterback, went over 100 yards both rushing and passing in the game.

After West Alabama opened a 14-2 lead, McKenna ran 24 yards for a touchdown with 6:31 left in the second quarter.

McKenna passed 16 yards to Antwan Harris with 4:24 left in the third quarter, but was stopped short on an attempt to run for the tying two-point conversion.

There was no further scoring.

McKenna carried 13 times for 113 yards. He hit 15 of 28 passes for 153 yards.

In another Division II game, Edinboro eliminated East Stroudsburg, 31-16.

Lakeland graduate Keith Galinsky started at defensive tackle for East Stroudsburg and made one tackle.

Riverside graduate Myles Roche is a redshirt sophomore offensive lineman at Shippensburg, which had a bye this weekend.
